The Collect: O God, the strength of all those who put their trust in you, mercifully accept our prayers and, because through the weakness of our mortal nature we can do no good thing without you, grant us the help of your grace, that in the keeping of your commandments we may please you both in word and deed; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

Rev’d Clive writes-
I was struck on a recent journey how the rainy followed by sunny weather has made the landscape burst into life. Everywhere the fertility of the soil and the moisture and warmth combine to turn the countryside green! (plus some of those bright yellow rapeseed fields)
Green (for growth) will be the liturgical colour too in church for some while now as we move into a long period of ordinary time; some 21 weeks from today to the last Sunday after Trinity on the distant shores of 24th October. Green is for growth in our congregational and individual lives. And this year it is interesting that this coincides with the gradual relaxation of the pandemic restrictions on our lives and the opportunity to expand our horizons again, growing outwards from the confines of lockdown.

As we receive this gift of a time for growth, how can we best make use of it in our church and individual lives? Someone told me that through the pandemic God has been showing us to live in the moment. This was because we couldn’t do very much and we certainly couldn’t be making lots of plans for the future. That struck a chord with me. Often I am caught up in lists and planning and that can lead me away from enjoying and giving thanks for the present moment. In face the only moment in which I can actually live! Maybe that is your experience too?
As church life returns more to ‘normal’ how can we best appropriate the pandemic lessons towards the seasons theme of growth? Maybe not by doubling down on our activities. But maybe by living more in the moment- which seems at first blush the opposite of a personal and church strategy for growth.
Yes the planning and other tasks will still be there but might be approached with a new lightness of heart, having been assigned to their correct place in the order of things. This season of ordinary time could be blessed by growth in simplicity, in thankfulness and in joy if we learn again to inhabit the moment.

Housing Justice - The Medaille Trust in Kent- webinar Wednesday 16th June, 4-5pm. The Medaille Trust exists to provide refuge and freedom to victims of modern slavery – supporting them as they rebuild their lives. The Moving On Project reaches out to female survivors living in the community, providing support to those who might not have access to such services, regardless of their status in the National Referral Mechanism. Pilgrimage: Clive will be leading a holiday to Austria and Oberammergau including the Passion Play 22-29 June 2022. If you would like to consider joining the group printed and e-copies of the holiday/pilgrimage brochure are available- please let Clive know.
St. Mary’s We regret to announce that Margaret Clinch died recently. Margaret’s funeral will be at Christ Church, Bexleyheath at 11.30 am Wednesday 9th June.
A sacristans meeting will be held at 11.00 am on Wednesday. A big thank you to all those who help to keep the church looking so lovely with cleaning, changing altar frontals etc. and linens, brass cleaning and flower arrangements.
