exley Team Children’s Church

This month for Bexley Team Children's Church, we continue to explore our Old Testament Heroes of the Faith. This month it's the turn of Gideon, the man who used a musical instrument to defeat an entire army (well, sort of anyway!) You can find Gideon's video and all our other Children's Church episodes here.... https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPTwEiJwqMXAA98yC2oTiGw

The Collect: God, who in generous mercy sent the Holy Spirit upon your Church in the burning fire of your love: grant that your people may be fervent in the fellowship of the gospel that, always abiding in you, they may be found steadfast in faith and active in service; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

Bible Readings  Isaiah 50 v4-9a  James 3 v1-12   Mark 8 v27-38

The Additional Collect for Trinity 15:  Lord God, defend your Church from all false teaching and give to your people knowledge of your truth, that we may enjoy eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord

BEXLEY TEAM CHURCHES – PLEASE SUPPORT THE NORTH CRAY & DISTRICT FESTIVAL OF REMEMBRANCE

The North Cray community are planning to hold a Festival of Remembrance on Sunday 7 November, which is the weekend BEFORE Remembrance Sunday. After a parade from the War Memorial at the North Cray Parish Church of St James, there will be a display of stories and memorabilia in the Scouts’ Geoffrey Hall, Leafield Lane, North Cray. The planning group are currently gathering items and stories for this display from the local community. The information they need is the name and what they did during the war times. They already have war stories ranging from a soldier who was one of first people who arrived to free prisoners from the prisoner of war camp Belsen, to a grandfather who drove the ammunition Bombs from air fields to and from Woolwich Arsenal along Plumstead High Street.

The stories (with the writer’s permission) will be displayed on the walls of the Scout’s Geoffrey Hall and all stories will be passed on to the Royal British Legion to keep copies on their website so that these accounts of the war will never be forgotten and will be held for generations to come.  Any uniforms or paperwork, ration books etc should be labelled so they can be returned to the correct person.  More information about the event will follow soon – book the date in your diary. Let me know if you are interested in taking part and supporting this event and I will pass your details onto the organisers. Rev Ren.

Project Bike Rack: Young people (those who consider themselves too old for Children's Church, but too young to have flown the nest) are invited to help make Bike Racks for use at St John's, from 2-4pm on Sunday's the 12th and 26th of September in the garden of St John's Vicarage (follow the path behind the church). Revd Matt Hodder:  We are looking forward to Rev Matt’s ordination as a Priest on Saturday 25th  September at 11.00 am at Rochester Cathedral. The service will be live-streamed and is best accessed by going to the Rochester Diocese website shortly before the service and clicking the link.  Please continue to pray for Rev Matt, Jen and their children, Zach and Annie, and for the new baby they are expecting in November.

We will be running the 5 week course on the following Wednesday evenings (15th, 22nd, 29th Sept, and the 6th and 13th October) at St John's Church from 7.45pm-9.15pm. If you would like to attend the course please can you let Rev Matt know.
